The Vet Aide Club at UC Davis drove down to Tulare, CA to tour Curtimade Dairy. The dairy was recently featured in a Real California Dairy Families marketing campaign. Ben Curti, owner of Curtimade Dairy, started the tour with a presentation on the dairy industry and his family history. He shared with us the practical applications of dairy management and explained the importance of the dairy industry to California's overall agricultural economy. After a delicious lunch we got into our cars to tour the dairy facility. Our tour consisted of seeing the cows in pasture, dry hens housing the young calves, listening in on a dairy nutrition talk, and ending with hand milking a cow inside the milk barn. Overall, students left with a greater appreciation of the work the Curti does on a daily basis to provide milk for the whole world.
