The Vet Aide Club at UC Davis learned about handling chinchillas, guinea pigs, and rabbits during Avian and Exotic Animal Medicine month. Members were split into three groups to apply basic handling principles and learn about common husbandry principles regarding pocket pets. Drs. Ruth Adams, Karlton Pfann and Jane Johnson were patient with the students and provided critical feedback. The students learned about what a health small mammal looks like, grooming, and handling them in a clinical setting. Each student came out with a better understanding of pocket pet medicine. We would like to thank all of the students, veterinarians, Debbie of Chins to Go in Sacramento for providing the chinchillas, Save a Bunny, and Lauren of Northern California Guinea Pig Rescue.
