Criteria for selection is based on:
- Availability
- The number one reason why students are not placed in an internship is due to time constraints. Please read the time requirements for the internships that you are applying for and try to make yourself as available as possible. You must be available for ALL HOURS of at least ONE of the specific time blocks to be selected for an internship.
- Year-in-School
- Consideration is given to upperclassmen are closer to graduation, but this is not the only factor and we welcome Freshman to apply.
- Experience
- The VMTH staff requires that some internships require varying amounts of prior clinical experience. Using the guidelines we are given, we try to fit interns who match these requirements. Please read the internship requirements described below before applying for a particular internship.
- Professionalism
- Please present your best self in the application process. This means typing up the application and answering all questions completely. Spelling and grammar matter. Include a resume, but make sure that you have a well formed resume that has been updated and reviewed by the Internship and Career Center. Be available when we will be doing scheduled phone interviews. Answer questions during the telephone interview in a serious and complete manner. Build a history of being reliable as an intern and club member.
- Resume
- Resumes are required as a professional supplement to the internship application. Resumes should not exceed ONE page; no references, cover letters, or letters of recommendation are needed. Please submit a resume that has been reviewed by the ICC. Please DO use the Resume Starter Kit, Resume Samples, and Alternative Resume Format resources.

HeaR what our vet Aide Interns have to say!!
I love that my internship follows a single case throughout the day. This stands out from other internships I have had where I jump from case to case helping with various tasks. It helps me learn more about the thought process behind making certain decisions for treatments as well as ways to approach treatment while making sure to work with the client’s needs. - Medical Oncology Intern
Hearing the vet students discuss their patients with the doctors and learning more about diagnostics and treatment. - Community Medicine Intern |
The vets are really welcome and I can watch how they do the surgeries and they would love to have a small introduction on the procedures they do. - Small Animal Emergency Intern |
The vets and technicians are all super nice and are willing to answer my questions. - Rehab/Integrative Medicine Intern |
I like that everyone inside VMTH is very friendly. I am not afraid to go up to them and talk to them freely as long as they are available, and my questions and comments are respectfully perceived and answered all the time. I also get to meet veterinarians, vet students, and very cool staff! -Ophthalmology Intern
Observing vet students and other staff provide treatments such as acupuncture and laser therapy: learn about rehabilitative practices and the benefits they provide, as well as the “why” behind various procedures Assisting in holding animals during procedures: animal handling and restraint on different sized animals Retrieving equipment: learn about the layout of the practice and how it is optimized for convenience as well as staff and patient safety - Rehabilitation Intern
